Ruched top
I don’t know about you, but, since I started the silent passage, which is everything but silent, my body is changing and I have limited control over the process. Blame the hormones…
When working in-person with my clients, I define the best length for tops, jackets, and skirts based on their body design. As years pass by, our body design changes, and it is important to accept and adapt to our evolving design.
Recently, I realized that, instinctively, I find myself ruching my tops and trying to make them stay in a different spot on my body. This is an intuitive reaction to deal with the new pouch I acquired during my “silent passage,” and the hills and valleys of my hips.
I personally like my clothing closer to my body, so playing with the length of the tops is a must to continue wearing them as I like.
Stopping the tops and bottoms at the crest of my belly helps de-emphasize these spots. if these articles are longer and looser, they should stop just after the valley of the hip to create the illusion of continuity.
If you are a visual person, watch the clip where I demonstrate these points.

Wearing tops bloused over the bottom will also help make your top fall around the crest of your abdomen.
I would also suggest to avoid bias cut and excessive fabric gathered at the waist.
Another technique to camouflage the abdomen and hips is to dress in a column of color where bottom and top are in the same color, and adding a contrasting jacket over it.
The eye looks in the direction of the lines. Taking that into consideration, the vertical line on the center will lengthen and narrow the silhouette.
Finally, continuing to take advantage of the direction of the line, you can create a diagonal line around the abdomen area by tucking your top on one side of your bottom, and let the other side fall loose. Diagonal lines usually will make you look slimmer and taller. The more vertical the angle, the taller and slimmer you will look. I usually use this technique when wearing pants.
