Embrace Your True Size: The Key to Confidence and Comfort

Elastic Waistband Redefined

As an image consultant, I see fresh fashion every season. I know from experience that clothing size differs across brands. When working with clients, I focus on fit and how their overall look is perfect from every angle. You’d be amazed at how often women overlook this!

Embrace your new body silhouette

My goal is to get my client into the best-fitting pant, top, dress, or jeans. A well-curated wardrobe may have items in four or five different sizes. What matters is that she looks great, and every piece in her closet fits well and flatters her figure. Trust me, it makes a world of difference!

Yet sizes can be such a stumbling block for women, including myself.

Having worked in retail, I’ve seen how women cling to that little number on their clothes. If they’ve always been a size 10, they hate going up a size, even if it looks better. They reject fit and comfort to squeeze into that size 10, no matter the cost. It's like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole!

Let’s talk about that cost. When seams strain, people might think: This woman must be out of touch or doesn’t care how she looks. The same goes for baggy, ill-fitting clothes. You don't want to look like you're swimming in fabric or about to burst at the seams!

People size you up in seconds. If you look uncomfortable or out of touch in your clothes, your image as a confident, successful person drops. Doubt creeps in. Your reputation takes a hit. And who wants that?

Where does this obsession with size come from? Many women share that their husbands or mothers were obsessed with their size. In my case, it was my grandmother. These last eight months, my body has transformed, and with the body changes I lost half of my wardrobe—mostly bottoms. I came to terms with no longer being a size Small. Oh, the drama!

You might think, “Oh Cecilia, give me a break!”

The truth is, we all have our experiences. As I removed one piece after another from my closet, I heard my grandmother’s voice saying I was too fat—a voice from the past I thought was gone forever. It's like a ghost that just won't leave!

I removed and donated all the pieces that no longer fit. Instead of replacing them, I explored new styles that complement my new body shape.

New silhouette: Voluminous

And I confess, an elastic waistband is quite comfortable! It's like a little hug for your waist.

The Evolution of My Personal Style: From Fitted to Voluminous

For many years, I loved clothes that fit close to my body. I adored the way a well-fitted dress or a pair of tailored pants could accentuate my figure. There was something undeniably empowering about wearing clothes that hugged my curves just right, making me feel confident and put-together.

However, with my personal size journey, I've noticed a shift in my preferences. The voluminous silhouette has become my new favorite, and I've embraced the freedom and comfort it offers. This change didn't happen overnight; it was a gradual transformation influenced by various factors, including becoming a grandmother.

The Shift Towards Voluminous Silhouettes

Let's find your favorite silhouette!

As time went on, I began experimenting with different styles and noticed a growing attraction to looser, more relaxed fits. Here's why:

  1. Comfort and Ease: The primary factor driving this change was comfort. Voluminous clothing provides an ease of movement that fitted pieces often lack. As my lifestyle evolved, I found myself valuing comfort more.
  2. Versatility: I discovered that voluminous silhouettes can be incredibly versatile. They can be dressed up or down with the right accessories, making them suitable for various occasions.
  3. Fashion Trends: Fashion trends played a role too. Designers began showcasing oversized and relaxed fits on the runways, inspiring me to try something new.
  4. Body Positivity: Embracing a more relaxed fit helped me appreciate my new body design in a different way. It was a shift towards self-acceptance and away from the constant pressure to maintain a certain shape.

A New Chapter in Style

This transition from fitted to more voluminous clothing marks a new chapter in my personal style. It’s a reflection of my evolving tastes and a testament to the idea that personal style is an ever-changing journey. It was important to embark on a style exploration once again and to dress in a way that feels authentic to me right now.

If you find yourself stuck in a style rut or hesitant to try something new, I encourage you to experiment. Step out of your comfort zone and explore different silhouettes. You might discover a new favorite look that you never expected. Personal Style is all about self-expression and finding joy in what you wear. So, go ahead and embrace the change—you might just find it to be the most liberating style decision yet!

This I know:

Your body wants to feel accepted just as it is, today, right now. You can give your body that gift by adorning it in clothes that fit and flatter. It’s misleading to think that being a certain size is the only time you’ll be attractive. It’s best to drop any expectations about sizing.

When you stop focusing on size, you can see the beauty in clothes: their design, details, textures, patterns, and lines. Focus on beauty and style first. Don’t give “size” any energy.

This is too big a price to pay for trying to fit into a familiar size instead of finding the best fit for your body. For a woman wearing clothes that are too big or too small, she may not trust the new sizes because she’s attached to “being” a certain size. It's like convincing a cat to take a bath - nearly impossible!

Change happens with small steps. If the first step is cutting the label off of your clothes to make you feel better, go ahead and do it.

Your comfort and confidence are far more important than any number on a tag.

My aim is to help you look great in clothes. It may be easier to tackle this with a coach like me by your side. If you’ve been in clothes that are too big or too small, can you imagine having more fun with clothes, being more visible? If you’ve struggled with sizing and fit, wouldn’t it be great to get a professional’s perspective?

I am here to support you! Let me assist you in finding the best looks for your unique body and help you to embrace your true size. Because, dear style friends, you truly deserve it!
