Find your best black
A photo can give you the answer you are looking for!
A photo can tell you if you and the color are arriving at the same time or, as my black jacket, arriving before you.
As we age, our natural coloring changes and with that, certain colors will no longer be as flattering as they were 20 years ago. Instead of black, try a “colored black” as navy, hunter green, eggplant, chestnut.
Building a wardrobe based on your color palette doesn’t happen overnight, and yet I wouldn’t do it in any other way.
If you are not convinced why you need a personalized color palette, here are 3 simple reasons why it’s even more useful during this time of the year:
- You will be very selective when shopping,
- You will be more secure in making unique color combinations, and adding pieces to existing capsules, and
- Finally, if you make sure your family and friends know your palette by heart, as I do, the gifts you receive will be easily incorporated into your existing wardrobe and not forgotten at the bottom of a drawer. ✨Trust me, I no longer receive anything pink as gifts.✨
Here is another tip about color
Repeat a color 3 times...
I apply the rule of 3, when adding an accent color to an outfit. The eye will read the color and the brain will close the circle.
In both images I repeated a color 3 times. On the left, black, on the right brown.
Why does brown work much better? Because the color is inherent to me. I have it in my eyes, it relates to my hair, and in this case, it is in the pattern of my skirt.

Color Palette and Your Makeup Choices
A guide to choose make-up
The color system I work with gives the client a color palette with 17 categories - Formal Neutral, Dark Neutral, Alternate Neutral, Related White, Casual Neutral, Personal Neutral (eye color), Skin Tone Beige, Skin Tone Blush, Dramatic 1 and 2, Alternates 1 and 2, Subdued, Metals, Prints and Pastels - and it is not only a guide for clothing, but also for makeup and even interior design.
Colors belonging to the neutral categories, usually the darkest ones in the palette, are used for mascara, eyebrow pencil, and contouring eye shadows. In this case, I also added a color belonging to the beige skin color category.
A color palette has two skin sticks (colors just before the red): the Beige (melanin) and the Blush (hemoglobin). The beige is related to the overall look of the skin and can be used as a guide to choose the foundation. Your blush colors and soft lipsticks come from the Blush category.
The Related Red category is usually used for lipsticks, nail polishes, and sometimes blushes.
Another category to take into consideration is the Eye Related Color. When choosing eyeshadows related to your eye color, the best colors are a softened eye color or a neutralized one (darkened).
The four sticks after the Related Red are the Dramatic and Alternate colors. The dramatic colors are the most intense of the palette and can be a guide for accent eyeshadow colors. The alternate colors can fall into the dramatic category or be additional low key colors. If they fall into the dramatic category, there are more options for accent colors.
Another point to consider is if we should wear matte or shimmer eyeshadows. Although I fall into the mature category, I like to and do wear both. I wear Shimmer Shadows on the bottom half of the eyelid or as an accent colors. Matte colors are always a safe choice.

Color palette and capsule dressing
Capsule dressing and a color palette
Are you a capsule type of person? Some are, some are not.
As I age, I have become very picky about what I add to my closet. Quality is more important than quantity and a color palette definitely helps me to not make any unnecessary purchase.
When shopping, always ask yourself: ✔️With what 3 items in my closet could I wear this piece? ✔️Does the color bring out the best in me? ✔️Is the fitting perfect for my body? ✔️is it part of my inherent visual universe?
If you have to think too hard to answer these questions, or have to compromise on one of them, let it go.

A color palette shows who you are.
I love my palette and I would love for YOU to love a palette too! Are you ready?
