Capsule Dressing Gone Awry - 3 Tips to Avoid Mistakes

I am writing this blog from the Phoenix, Arizona airport on my way back to Delaware after visiting my grandson for the first time. I confess that when I travel my brain goes into a “what if… “mode: What if I change my mind on what I want to wear? What if an accident happens? In the end, I always end up taking more than I need even though I am an image consultant and I truly believe in capsule dressing to create a functional wardrobe and light easy travel.
So, I decided to practice what I preach. Big mistake!!!
So, After learning some valuable lessons, here are my top tips for capsule dress when you are travelling.

Tip #1: Make sure you have checked the weather for all locations you are visiting!
I don’t remember ever traveling with my husband with one suitcase, but that is what we did going to Arizona to visit our grandson for the first time.
I created a small capsule with a light jacket, 2 pants, 6 tops, and two pair of shoes. Everything went with everything. They were wrinkle resistant and were perfect for Arizona weather.
And then I went to the Grand Canyon! The temperature was 30 degrees lower than Phoenix!

Tip #2: If interacting with children, expand your traveling capsule. You want to enjoy each moment and not worry about clothing.
After so many years not being around babies, I forgot about the burping, drooling, small diapers accidents, and teething. The truth is that despite the capsule challenges, spending time with my daughter and my happy baby grandson was priceless. How could I resist his smile? For the next visit, a “visiting grandson travelling capsule” will be developed, including an apron!
Tip #3: Always have extra pieces of your capsule in your carry on, GOING and COMING BACK! You no longer can trust airlines.
Since I started writing, my flight went south. Literally! We ended up in Dallas instead of Philly because of a malfunction in the airplane, forcing us to find a hotel to spend the night without the suitcase!
I have some thoughts about leggings...
Looking around while waiting for my flight, I realized that women have lost the ability to dress with intention. If you follow me on social media, you know my thoughts about leggings. No matter the age, body shape, or body line, it seems that the only garment available in stores are leggings.

Leggings
My personal experience wearing them is that they are uncomfortable and emphasize non-flattering parts of my body. Another challenge with leggings is that they easily expand with me making me lose the control of my body weight. There are other styles of bottoms, more flattering and as comfortable and easy to take care of as leggings.
When I take a photo of me wearing leggings without a long top, I really don’t like what I see.
If I see it others will too. Remember that!
I kept asking myself about what happened to the pre-pandemic wardrobe of all the women in leggings...
Style friends, there is more to dressing than leggings! Do you really want to look like everybody else?
Has the pandemic changed your style?
Lately, I have been working with clients in seeing new possibilities in their closets. For some, the pandemic made them realize that they no longer can identify with what they have, and the pre-pandemic visual universe they were used to, while for others, life changes happened during the pandemic, and they need to re-think how they want to be perceived.

Closet Exploration Session
I was thrilled when I received this testimonial from a client about her Closet Exploration experience.
"Big thanks and shout out to Cecilia Stoeckicht, for bringing her expertise and ingenuity to breath new life into the clothes in my closet. I was able to learn more about my own style and image, while gaining a deeper appreciation for how I can communicate that through my wardrobe.
Cecilia created so many beautiful combinations from the same few pieces, accessorizing with jewelry, handbags, shoes and boots, that if felt like I had a boutique right inside my own closet.
I loved her thorough approach to getting to know me through a clarity call and recap. Then, she visited me for a closet exploration, featuring a capsule wardrobe approach, complete with her pulling the outfits together, taking photos so I’d be able to do it myself later and leaving me with a binder full of wardrobe chart worksheets for future reference.
I now see my own wardrobe through fresh eyes, and have a better understanding of my own personal style that guides not only how I get dressed each day, but how I add new pieces to my closet with intention and inspiration.
With much appreciation to Cecilia, who I continue to love learning from as she shares her wisdom, knowledge and expertise about style, color, image, and more. I look forward to a future session together."
I would love to see you experience the same breath of new life with your closet.
